Due to the variety of measures adopted and the innovative environmental initiatives implemented during the construction of the Chacayes plant to minimize environmental impacts, the plant received, among others, the "Hydroelectric Project of the Year" award by the organizers of the events POWER-GEN International and Renewable Energy World North America, as well as the "Environmental Initiative of the Year" award at the 2011 International Tunnelling Awards in Hong Kong, organized by the UK's New Civil Engineer and Ground Engineering magazines.
Pacific Hydro's corporate community plan involves localities during the construction and operation of its hydroelectric plants in the region. Local communities also benefit from the "Creciendo Juntos" (Growing Together) sustainable communities fund, which aims to improve the population's quality of life. Since its creation, Creciendo Juntos has distributed more than 1 million dollars to the communities of the Alto Cachapoal Valley.
Hydroelectric projects generate electricity from running water, reducing the need to burn fossil fuels for energy production. The benefits of these projects include preserving natural resources, promoting renewable energy generation, reducing dependence on non-renewable resources, spreading green technology across the world, and improving health.

What are the project SDGs
The project Chacayes Hydroelectric Project, Chile includes 4 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, which are:

AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY
Ensure reliable, sustainable, modern, and affordable access to energy for all. This goal aims to ensure that all people have access to reliable, sustainable, and modern energy sources to meet their basic needs such as lighting, heating, transportation, and productive use. This includes promoting access to renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power, and ensuring that the energy transition is made inclusively and equitably, taking into account the needs of the most vulnerable communities. Additionally, it seeks to improve energy efficiency and expand access to energy services in rural and remote areas.

DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC GROWTH
Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all. This goal aims to ensure that economic growth is sustainable and inclusive, creating decent jobs and work opportunities for all people. It seeks to achieve full and productive employment and decent work, as well as promote equal opportunities in the labor market, reduce informality, and combat all forms of child labor and forced labor. SDG 8 also encourages the development of policies that support entrepreneurship, innovation, and economic growth in sustainable sectors.

INDUSTRY, INNOVATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE
Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation. This goal aims to promote the development of quality and sustainable infrastructure across all sectors, including transportation, energy, water, and sanitation. It seeks to increase access to technology and information and communication services, as well as promote inclusive and sustainable industrial development. Additionally, SDG 9 encourages innovation and investment in research and development to stimulate economic growth and address global challenges.

CLIMATE ACTION
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. This goal aims to address the challenges posed by climate change, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, adapting to adverse impacts already occurring, and promoting climate resilience. Achieving this goal requires actions at various levels, from local to international, aiming at mitigating emissions, developing adaptation strategies, implementing environmental policies, and mobilizing resources to finance measures to combat climate change. SDG 13 recognizes the urgency of acting to avoid the worst effects of climate change and to protect the environment for future generations.
