The project comprises only one activity - a single wind farm with a total installed capacity of 144 MW, which was implemented near the town of De Aar in the Northern Cape Province of the Republic of South Africa. 96 UP86 1.5MW turbines, supplied by Guodian United Power, are employed in the project.

The electricity generated by the project is fed into the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) grid, where South Africa is represented by Eskom, displacing the energy that would otherwise have been generated by the operation of the plants connected to the SAPP grid and by the addition of new generation sources reflected in the CO2 emission factor of combined margin of 0.9871 t CO2/MWh adopted for the SAPP electrical system. As part of the regional development efforts associated with the wind project, Longyuan Mulilo De Aar 2 North (RF) (Pty) Ltd (Longyuan Mulilo) has:
Initiated a Longyuan Mulilo Health Project to provide health services, including primary health care, dental, ophthalmic, and COVID-19-related services to students, educators, and community members around the project using a Mobile Health Clinic (MHC), which was donated to the Department of Health to screen up to 8,800 students annually on a permanent basis. Areas visited by the MHC so far include St Johns Primary School, Emthanjeni Primary School, Orion High School, Monwabisi High School, Veritas High School, De Aar Town Clinic, Hoerskool Theron School, Montana Clinic, Nonzwakazi Clinic;
Launched the Mathematical Enrichment Program with the aim of improving subject results in local schools through student resources, stimulating interest in the subjects, and creating opportunities to study further in related higher courses. The enrichment program also aims to encourage leaner students to take Mathematics and Science to Grade 12. Longyuan Mulilo's funding contributions were for salaries, student subsidies, student study sponsorship, operating costs, and administrative fees;
Launched a Higher Education Scholarship Program to support students, including covering tuition fees, institution registration fees, and accommodation fees, as well as a book allowance per year, meal allowance (if the student applied for and qualified) and laptops. Students are selected based on financial circumstances and targeting those who could not have attended higher education without the support of the scholarship program. An annual budget of R4,000,000 was allocated to the scholarship program;
Renovated the 3 Early Childhood Development Centers (ECD): Kaalvoet Akademie ECD, Karoo Druppels ECD, and Mthuthuzeli Daycare ECD, with the long-term impact of providing quality early childhood development programs and services for the benefit of young children, their families, and the communities and also improving the quality of early childhood development in the Emthenjeni and Renosterberg regions of South Africa. Longyuan Mulilo contributes to salaries, food, and other supports;

What are the project SDGs
The project Longyuan Mulilo De Aar 2 North Wind Energy Facility includes 3 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, which are:
AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY
Ensure reliable, sustainable, modern, and affordable access to energy for all. This goal aims to ensure that all people have access to reliable, sustainable, and modern energy sources to meet their basic needs such as lighting, heating, transportation, and productive use. This includes promoting access to renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power, and ensuring that the energy transition is made inclusively and equitably, taking into account the needs of the most vulnerable communities. Additionally, it seeks to improve energy efficiency and expand access to energy services in rural and remote areas.
DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC GROWTH
Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all. This goal aims to ensure that economic growth is sustainable and inclusive, creating decent jobs and work opportunities for all people. It seeks to achieve full and productive employment and decent work, as well as promote equal opportunities in the labor market, reduce informality, and combat all forms of child labor and forced labor. SDG 8 also encourages the development of policies that support entrepreneurship, innovation, and economic growth in sustainable sectors.
CLIMATE ACTION
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. This goal aims to address the challenges posed by climate change, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, adapting to adverse impacts already occurring, and promoting climate resilience. Achieving this goal requires actions at various levels, from local to international, aiming at mitigating emissions, developing adaptation strategies, implementing environmental policies, and mobilizing resources to finance measures to combat climate change. SDG 13 recognizes the urgency of acting to avoid the worst effects of climate change and to protect the environment for future generations.
