Unimed Campinas Forest
Proudly, Unimed Campinas has offset the greenhouse gas emissions from its operations and achieved the Carbon Neutral Seal, granted by Eccaplan Sustainability Consulting. Throughout 2020, 820,000 kg of Carbon were emitted, which were offset through support for a Brazilian environmental project and a renewable energy certificate, registered on the United Nations platform. In addition, with the Unimed Campinas Forest, 1500 seedlings of native trees from the Atlantic Forest will be planted in a Permanent Preservation Area (PPA).
Learn More
The Unimed Campinas Cooperative will plant 1,500 seedlings of native Atlantic Forest trees in a Permanent Preservation Area (APP) located next to the Campinas Environmental Protection Area (APA) in Sousas, where the planting of the 1,500 trees will be named the Unimed Campinas Forest.
The planting will take place in Sousas, in the state of São Paulo. The Biome that encompasses the chosen area is the Atlantic Forest, which covers about 15% of the national territory, in 17 states. It is home to 72% of Brazilians and concentrates 70% of the national GDP. Essential services such as water supply, climate regulation, agriculture, fishing, electricity generation, and tourism depend on it. Today, only 12.4% of the forest that originally existed remains.
For this reason, this initiative contributes to the maintenance of essential environmental services for life and to the strengthening of local organizations.
Planting trees demonstrates environmental concern, bringing nature to the forefront of its actions, in addition to contributing to the production of water, oxygen, and ensuring conditions for the permanence of local fauna, and consequently for the restoration of the Atlantic Forest Biome, the most devastated in the country. All these actions contribute to combating climate change.
Unimed Campinas, with the support of Eccaplan Sustainability Consulting, made possible the planting and maintenance of 1500 native species, providing an increase in local biodiversity and water security, as well as carbon capture and storage. Its monitoring will last for 2 years and the photos will be shared on the Map.
