Founded in 1940 by Maestro José Siqueira, the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra is the most traditional symphonic ensemble in the country, recognized for the pioneering nature of its actions: the first Brazilian orchestra to tour Brazil and abroad, perform outdoor concerts, and develop audience engagement projects. The institutional missions of the OSB include reaching new audiences for symphonic music, encouraging new talents, and promoting a diverse repertoire, goals achieved through more than 5,000 concerts held over more than 80 years of uninterrupted trajectory. In addition to having revealed names such as Nelson Freire, Arnaldo Cohen, and Antônio Meneses, the OSB also has a history of collaboration with some of the greatest artists of the 20th century: Leonard Bernstein, Zubin Mehta, Kurt Sanderling, Arthur Rubinstein, Martha Argerich, Kurt Masur, Claudio Arrau, Mstislav Rostropovich, Jean-Pierre Rampal, and José Carreras, among others. OSB's performances take place at Theatro Municipal, Sala Cecília Meireles, Cidade das Artes, among other venues in the city. In its regular programming, special performances, and educational projects, the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra continues to explore a wide musical universe - from Baroque production to contemporary composers - constantly seeking the excellence of its music and, consequently, the realization of its social and educational objectives.
